Sergeant 1st Class Larry Wade Layne, U.S. Army Retired passed from this life Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Maury Regional Medical Center in Columbia. Larry was born in Sewanee, Tennessee on February 25, 1959, a son of the late Lonnie Layne and Earlene Layne who survives. Larry grew up in Tracy City and joined the Army, serving in Desert Storm, he served three tours in Iraq, was stationed in Saudi Arabia and Germany. He was very proud and patriotic, as all who have served he was a true hero. One of his favorite duties while stationed stateside was to perform military honors for deceased veterans, especially those from his beloved Grundy County. Larry was seriously wounded while serving overseas and was discharged from the Army after serving 28 years. Also preceding him in death was his daughter, Jessica Layne. He was living in Lewisburg at the time of his death. Survivors include his wife, Linda Gail Layne of Lewisburg; son, Michael Paul; mother, Earlene Layne; sister, Patricia Hamby; brothers, Rocky, Ben and Mike Layne; grandchildren, Michelle and Emily, Kyla Colston; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Brother Mike Rigsby and Brother Claude Hoback officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery with full military honors.
