Mrs. Mildred Thomas Ridley "Sissy" Stewart, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Emerald-Hodgson Skilled Care in Sewanee. A native of Murfreesboro, Sissy was preceded in death by her parents, Granville Sumner Ridley, Jr. and Elisabeth Ophelia Howse Ridley. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Colonel Ellis Cameron Stewart, by her children, Cameron Ridley Stewart (Myrna) of Keller, Texas, George Howse Stewart (Karen) of Denver, Colorado, Elisabeth Lamar Stewart DeLargy (Jeff) of Austin, Texas, Mildred Florence Stewart Wells (John) of Salt Lake City, sisters,Florence Howse Ridley and Susan Boardman Ridley both of Murfreesboro, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Morton Memorial United Methodist Church, 330 West Main Street, Monteagle with Reverend Von UnRuh officiating.. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: the general fund of Morton Memorial United Methodist Church; the Cowan Railroad Museum; the May Justus Memorial Library; the Library and Remedial Reading programs at Monteagle Elementary School; Leamis; or Gospel Partners. Sissy would say that the greatest tribute people could pay her is to help others in her memory. Cumberland Funeral Home, 207 Mabee Avenue, Monteagle, Tennessee is in charge of arrangements.
