Obituary of Byron Delano Mayes

Byron Delano Mayes, age 85, of Tracy City, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023. He was born on October 18, 1937, to the late Roy Clinton and Veola Patrick Mayes. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Fritz Lewis Mayes, Glenn Allen Mayes, Roy Wince Mayes, and Wayne Mayes. Byron liked to build, work in his garden, and go ginseng digging. He loved telling stories, joking and whistling. He loved being around people and never met a stranger. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carlene Mayes; children, Valerie (Cletus) Pew and Byron Mayes Jr.; grandchildren, Katherine Pew, Jacob Pew, Dylan Pew, Calista Pew, and Maleah Mayes; and his sister, Mary Ruth Rogers. The Funeral Service will be Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Cumberland Funeral Home – Foster and Lay Chapel in Tracy City at 2:00 PM with Bro. Mark Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Orange Hill Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held at Cumberland Funeral Home from 12 PM until time of service.
