Obituary of Clifford Hugh Barnhill

Mr. Clifford Hugh Barnhill, age 89, passed away January 4, 2023 peacefully at his home. He was born September 15, 1933, in Cumberland Furnace, TN, to Clifford Edward Barnhill and Nancy Lorene Gafford Barnhill, both of whom preceded him in death. Clifford served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Command Sergeant Major, having tours in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. In addition to his service to America, he was a member of many organizations benefiting his local community. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus, a Shriner, and a Mason. Clifford was also a member of the Special Forces Association as well as a Kentucky Colonel. He was active in the Sewanee Senior Citizen Center. Clifford was active in his church, Our Lady of Lourdes in South Pittsburg. Cliff loved to travel and see the world, both during his Army career and in retirement. He enjoyed visiting new places, learning the language and experiencing the culture. He is survived by his children, John G Barnhill, Cheryl D’Onofrio (Anthony), and Laura J Eye (Michael); sister, Wilma Jean Satterfield; and his granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Eye. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, John L Barnhill; sisters, Donna Johnson, June Petru, and Joyce Thomas. There will be a celebration of life at Our Lady of Lourdes in South Pittsburg on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM (CST) with Rev. Mark Scholz officiating.
