I was so fortunate to have Mrs. Moore as my first grade teacher. I remember the cheerful classroom atmosphere and how she skillfully managed the room full of squirrely 6- and 7-year-olds. Years later, it was a treat to see Mrs. Moore walking around town. She always wore a smile and wanted to catch up. One time my mother Jane Ebey and I were driving up the mountain from Cowan, and we saw a woman outside her car on the side of the road, almost at the top of the mountain. I'm so glad we stopped--it was Novella Moore! We weren't handy with cars, but we took her to someone who could help. One time, when I was walking along Green's View Road, Mrs. Moore was in her front yard, so I stopped to talk. She took me inside to show me a family photo--she was clearly so proud of her daughters! Thinking of you all at this time. -Martha (Ebey) Lee
