Obituary of George Eric Metrolis

Mr. George Eric Metrolis, age 88 of Tracy City, TN, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN after an extended illness. He was born on Febuary 2, 1930, in Long Island, NY to the late George J. Metrolis and Mildred Woods Metrolis. Mr. Metrolis served his country in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean conflict followed by 10 years in the United States Air Force Reserves. He was also a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxillary. He was an air traffic controller for 33 years with the Federal Aviation Administration. He served as the deputy sheriff of Lauderdale County for 12 years, and also served as a volunteer fireman for the Collinsville Fire Department. Mr. Metrolis was also a valued member of the emergency response team when Hurricane Katrina hit the United States.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Metrolis is preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Sandy Sharp Metrolis, and one sister, Norma Metrolis . He is survived by his five children, Dennis Metrolis of Memphis, TN, Debbie Metrolis of Tupelo, MS, Chuck Metrolis of Pecos, TX, Elizabeth Lemming (Stephen) of Stugardt, Germany, and Denise Higgins (Donald) of Tracy Sity, TN; two brothers, Albert and Bill Metrolis and one sister, Phyllis Pettijon; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and a host for friends.

 

A memorial service for Mr. Metrolis will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 11 AM at the Sharp Memorial in Collinsville, MS.

Mr. Metrolis’s remains will be layed to rest at the

Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
