William "Bill" Robert Curtis, 94 of Pelham, TN passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 in Sewanee, TN. Bill was born in Coalmont, TN on January 22, 1924 to parents Arthur and Minnie Curtis who preceed him in death.
Bill is also preceded in death by his loving wife, Henrietta Rieder Curtis, brothers, Arthur Roy, James D., John E., and sisters, Edwene Baggenstoss, Margaret Anderson, Willie Mae Mullican, and daughter-in-law Carolyn Curtis.
Bill is survived by his son, Kelly Curtis of Decherd and daughter, Katie Curtis of Pelham, grandchildren, Michelle Curtis, Tommy Curtis, and great grandson Matthew Curtis, all of Decherd. He is also survived by his brother Tommy Curtis (Gwen) of Coalmont, sister, Betty Campbell also of Coalmont and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.
Bill served his country in the United States Army in the Pacific theatre in WWII. He was honorably discharged in November of 1946 with a rank of Tech 4. He returned home to his loving wife, Henrietta and his young son, Kelly. Bill worked many years for the Dutch-Maid Bakery in Tracy City and Decherd as a mechanic, maintaining the delivery trucks and also the appliances and equipment used daily in the bakery. Upon leaving Dutch-Made Bakery, Bill used his knowledge of auto mechanics to work at the Cumberland Auto Parts Store in Decherd until his retirement.
Bill was a humble and faithful servant of the Lord, using his gift and talent for leading the church in song. For many, many years, Bill served as the song leader for the Pelham Church of Christ. During the summer months, Bill and Henrietta could be found all across Middle Tennessee, as Bill served as song leader for Gospel Meetings in area Churches of Christ.
In addition to his giftedness in song, Bill was a talented artist who painted many beautiful pieces of art calling attention to the beauty of nature and the area of Tennessee he called home.
Funeral services for Bill will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 29, 2018, in the Foster and Lay Chapel of Cumberland Funeral Home in Tracy City with full military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Bro. Mike Partin will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Coalmont Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until time of services at the funeral home.
