Obituary of Georgia Goodman Mooney
Georgia Goodman Mooney, age 103, of Sewanee, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Emerald Hodgson Skill Care in Sewanee. She was born August 27, 1914 to the late Elbert and Betty Turner Goodman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Mooney, and brother, Ray Goodman. Most of all she was a Christian and a homemaker who loved to work in her garden and with her African violets. She had a green thumb like no other. She was a member of Chapman’s Chapel Church of the Nazarene in Pelham where she taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed reading the Bible and studying her Sunday School lessons. She was a good seamstress who enjoyed sewing and making quilts. She was a wonderful cook who loved having family and friends over for a meal. She loved to see everyone, enjoyed visiting with family and friends from near and far. Survivors include her son, Paul E. Mooney (Shirley) of Sewanee; brother Ralph Goodman of Winchester, formerly of Pelham; grandchildren Debbie (Neil) Gray of Petal, Mississippi, Sarah (Charlie) Limbaugh of Manchester, Marie (Dan) Ferguson of Sewanee, Joanne (David) Lynch of Tracy City, Billy (Michelle) Nunley of Tracy City, James (Sissie) Nunley of Tracy City, and Charline (Tony) Vincent of Hillsboro; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Saturday, December 9 at Cumberland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Cumberland Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Pittenger officiating. Interment will follow at Eastern Star Cemetery in Sewanee.
