Obituary of Lethia Jacobs Watson

Please share a memory of Lethia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lethia Jacobs Watson, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2017, in Sewanee, Tennessee, with her family at her side. Lethia was born in Bridgeport, Alabama, on May 28, 1933, the daughter of Elmer Pruitt and Geneva Givan Jacobs. She graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1955, where she was homecoming queen during her senior year.

While she lived other places including Huntsville, Alabama and Elkton, Tennessee, she spent much of her life in Monteagle and came “full circle,” returning to the mountain in 1983. Her home in Monteagle Assembly was a sanctuary to family and her many friends, young and old. She was well known for her gallery where she sold McCarty’s pottery and paintings by local artists.

She is survived by her children Herman “Chuck” Austin Watson of Bozeman, Montana, III; daughter-in-law Anne Henneberg Watson of Bozeman, Montana; James Hundley Watson (Jane) of Seattle, Washington; Elmer “Jake” Jacobs Watson (Mary Tally) of Huntsville, Alabama, and John “Jack” Sevier Watson (Sheila) of Huntsville, Alabama. Her grandchildren include Herman, Dylan, Jack, Chloe, Jake, Emma, Daniel, and Rosalie. She is also survived by her brother Rice Abner Jacobs of Montgomery, Alabama, many nieces and nephews and Lily, her 14-year-old Poodle.

The service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Warren Chapel in the Monteagle Assembly with burial in the Assembly’s cemetery, followed by a celebration of Lethia’s life at Harton Dining Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Monteagle Assembly Endowment Fund.
