Obituary of Harvey Ray Tipton
Tracy City- Harvey Ray Tipton age 70 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday July 25, 2017. He was born in Coalmont, TN on April 5, 1947. He was the son of the late Tinsley Tipton and the late Margie Sweeten Tipton of Tracy City, TN. He was a 1966 graduate of Grundy County High School. He was employed by DuPont Nylon Industry and Wheland Foundry in Chattanooga, TN before retiring to enjoy his passion of remodeling of rental homes. He was of the Church of God faith.
He is preceded in death by his sister Velma Lowe of Tracy City, TN and brother Bobby Gene Turner of Coalmont, TN.
Survivors include his children, Kevin (Lynn) Tipton of Jasper, TN, Ray Junior Tipton of Tracy City, TN, Donna (Tim) Adams of Jasper, TN, Dianna (Tracey) Meeks of Tracy City, TN, and Tammy (Dewayne) Scott of Ringgold, GA; Brother Charles (Kris) Tipton of Coalmont, TN; Sisters Thelma Gilliam of Pelham, TN, Sue(Harold) Collins of Coalmont, TN, Brenda Goins of Tracy City, TN, Shirley Carrick of Chattanooga, TN; 21 grandchildren, one great grandchild and many special nephews, nieces and friends.
Ray was a hardworking, kind and determined man who never knew the word quit. When diagnosed with cancer in December 2016, he faced this challenge head on and relied on God for strength and resilience during this journey. He was a true champion to the very end of this life who never gave up the fight.
Ray loved his family, his friends, and his community as well as his dog Buddy. He was an avid Tennessee Vols and Grundy County Football fan. He played for the Grundy County Yellow Jackets Football team during the 1962-1965 seasons. He was known for his speed and elusiveness. He was awarded the Player of the Century in 2000 and will be inducted into the 2017 Grundy County Sports Hall of Fame which he felt honored to become a member.
Services will be held Friday 3:00 PM July 28, 2017 at our Tracy City location. Visitation:5:00-9:00 PM Thursday at Cumberland Funeral Home, Tracy City, Tennessee. Online condolences can be made at www.cumberlandfuneralhome.net
