Obituary of Ray Shrum

Mr. Ray Shrum, 78, passed away Friday January 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Marion County near Pryor Ridge on May 9, 1938 to Taylor William and Julia Harris Shrum who preceded him in death along with his brother, Billy Griffith.
Ray was a heavy equipment operator retiring from the Tennessee Department of Transportation then went to work for his close friend, John Blevins of John Blevins Construction working right up until his health declined. He was one of the original organizers and builders of the Fiery Gizzard Sportsman Club. Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law to his family. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing with friends, family and his great grandson. He also liked cooking outside on the property with his family. Ray was always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend or family member in need.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dola Gibbs Shrum; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Debbie Shrum; granddaughters, Tabitha (Derrick) Clark and Danielle (Tommy) Hensley; great grandchildren, Katie and Taylor; brothers, Donald and Mike Shrum; sisters, Orpha (Russ Buchannon) Myers and Peggy Gross; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 Monday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Dennis Rollins officiating with burial to follow in the Plainview Cemetery.
