Carl Wesley "Squat" Crisp, age 88, of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away on March 18, 2015. He retired from AEDC in Tullahoma, after 35 years of service as a fireman. He was a member of the Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Ida Mae Street Crisp; parents, Green Benny and Jennie Crisp; paternal grandparents, Tom Crisp and Armelda Stone Crisp; brothers, Othel "Monk" Crisp, Haskell Marion "Bright Eyes" Crisp, William Allen Crisp and Jackie Crisp. Squat was a veteran and served in US Navy from September 21, 1944 to March 25, 1946, and a member of American Legion Post 74. He was very active in his community, he served as Mayor of Tracy City on Two terms, was involved in starting up the Tracy City, Grundy County Rescue Squad. He also worked as an EMT for Grundy County Ambulance Service. Squat also enjoyed working cross word puzzle daily, enjoyed sports and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves, Tennessee Vols, and any sport played at Grundy County High School. He spent many years as the announcer for football, baseball and basketball games at Grundy County High School. He also helped with the start up of the Grundy County High School marching band in the late 1960's, with years of dedication to Grundy County High School sports, the high school football field was named "Crisp Field" in honor of Squat and his brother Bright Eyes. During many summers he was an umpire for little league baseball. He also enjoyed hunting, some of his most favorite times were spent at the hunting cabin he built with his buddies, Juke Shook and George Coppinger, one of his most memorable hunting trips was in 1986 to Wyoming. He also enjoyed his trips to Hawaii and Washington DC. Survivors include his wife of almost 44 years, Joan Patterson Crisp; children, Debbie (Leon) Woodlee, Gruetli-Laager, TN; Kim Strange and Karman Cannon, Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Kasey Woodlee, Toby (Brittany) Woodlee and Kayla Woodlee; great grandchildren, Jaleal "TJ" Starkey and Knoxx Woodlee. Having only one grandson he was especially close with Toby. They enjoyed the bonding experiences of hunting, baseball and carpentry, they enjoyed sharing stories and he especially enjoyed spending time with his great grandsons "Knott" and "JL". He was never too old to learn new things from his grandchildren. They taught him about texting and taking selfies. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Stephen Eichler officiating, with Military honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard, burial will be in the Plainview cemetery.
