Obituary of Billy Layne

Mr. Billy Ray Layne age 83 of Monteagle passed away Wednesday evening at his home. He was a long time educator and principal at Monteagle School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He also coached sports at Monteagle School for many years in the Big 8, he took great pride in his students, faculty and support staff, during his tenure, many years Monteagle School had the highest test scores of any of the Marion County schools. He was born in Marion County, a son of the Late John Layne and Myrtle Dykes Layne and was the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Delores Layne; children, Denise (Freeland) Terrill, Steve (Sheri) Layne; brother, Alfred Layne; grandchildren, Scotty, Leah, Marsha, Krystal, Stephanie, Juli, Vanessa, Whitney; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Kobe, Kylie, Tristen, Justin, Caleb, Braden, Camille, Hallie and Holden; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Mickey Henley and John Shelly officiating. Burial will be in Monteagle Cemetery with full military honors provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday evening 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
