Obituary of June Peters
Please share a memory of June to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
June B. Peters died at home in Sewanee on May 22, 2014, after a long illness. The Rev. Joe Novenson, Senior Pastor of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church, will conduct a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so may make a donation to a charity of choice in her name. Born in Chicago, IL, on June 3, 1923, June was raised in that city, where she developed lifelong friendships. She and her family also spent much time at local forest preserves and in northern Wisconsin. She introduced her husband, and later her children, to the wonders of nature in the north woods, with their glacial lakes. She married Robert W. Peters in May 1943 and accompanied him on his military training around the Southeast U.S. until his deployment. June did office work both before her children were born and after they had reached college age. She resided in Barrington, IL, for 23 years before retiring to Sewanee, TN, in 1986 with her husband. She loved the natural beauty of the Cumberland Plateau and made many friends, all of whom were a joy to her and a comfort when she was widowed in 1988. She is survived by her three children, Linda C. Peters of Sewanee, Christopher J. (Laura) Peters of Hoffman Estates, IL, and James R. (Cheri) Peters of Sewanee; and three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Sasha, and Nadia Peters.
