Obituary of Dawn Melton

Dawn Marie Melton age 38 of Chattanooga passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, in Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Dawn was a 1993 graduate of Grundy County High School and was a standout basketball player for the Lady Jackets. Her senior year, she was named to the 1st team AP All State Basketball Team averaging 20.8 points per game, she hit 72 three point shots, made 92 of 132 free throws, stole the ball 78 times, and had 100 rebounds and an impressive 161 assists. She graduated from Roane State Community College. Dawn loved her family, basketball and loved to travel. She brought joy to all who knew her with her laughter and energetic personality. She worked as a professional contract painter and became well known as a perfectionist in her business. She was preceded in death by her mother, Darlene Kay Childers Melton;brother, Billy Edwards; grandparents, C. D. & Jessie Pauline Melton; uncle, Dave Melton. Survivors include her father, Bill Melton, Tracy City; sister, Misty May Melton; niece, Liberty Darlene Marie Melton; nephew, Michael Bradley Melton all of Monteagle; grandmother, Gloria Woodlee, Elk City, OK; aunts and uncles, Sue Rankin Melton, Tom (Janie) Melton, Henry (Karen) Melton, Wayne Melton, Renee Reid, Marie (Haskel) Meadows all of Tracy City, Virginia (Ronald) Hughes, Chattanooga, Beverly Rowland, Sewanee, Doug Woodlee, Elk City Oklahoma, Ronnie Childers, Donnie (Kay) Childers, Sue Childers all of Oklahoma; many cousins who were like her brothers and sisters. The family would like say thank you to all who have shown support within our community with your prayers, the sharing of your pictures and memories of Dobie, which brings tears to our eyes, a smile on our face, and peace in our hearts just knowing how she was loved. Dawn was as generous and caring in death as she was in life by giving the gift of life to several different people by being an organ and tissue donor. A memorial service to celebrate Dawn's life will be 6:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Foster & Lay Chapel with Minister Ben Curtis officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-6 P.M. at the funeral home. On line condolences may be made at www.fosterlayfuneralhome.net.
