Mrs. Peggy C. Hankins age 84 of Winchester, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Peggy was a native of Decherd and was a daughter of the late, Ed Pratt Cowan and Cullie Agnes Rose Cowan and was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Lappin. She retired from The University of the South after 34 years of loyal service and was a member of Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she served as attendance secretary, she sang in the choir for over 40 years. She loved her church. Peggy was an avid sports fan rarely missing a game that any of her children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren played. She and John loved the Lady Vols and went to as many games as they could make. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, John Hankins; daughters, Cindy (Galon) Sherrill and Jan Lappin; sister, Patricia (Jim) Cunningham; grandchildren, Beth (Eric) Burton, Allison (Jason) Fraker, Matt Lappin, Clay Sherrill and Becca (Shaun) Yates; great grandchildren, Christopher Harper, Aleigh Sherrill, CullieAnne Fraker, Aydan Yates, Reagan Sherrill and Ava Rose Yates; great-great-granddaughter, Zoey Harper. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Michael Clark officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-8 P.M. at Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 200 2nd Ave. N.W., Winchester, TN and Friday morning from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Eastern Star Cemetery in Sewanee. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus, 1805 Jackson Street, Suite 5 & 6, Tullahoma, Tennessee 37388.
