I was just thinking about Matt today...remembering how he was one of the first people to befriend me at Heritage High School. The last time I spoke with Matt was over 5 years ago and was unaware of his passing until now. I feel like the world has lost quite a treasure. Matt was a radical, raw, and fearless individual with a zeal for life, philosophy, and truth seeking. I knew of Matt since elementary. I remember watching and admiring his magnetic personality on Shark Watch every morning at Shoal Creek. I thought "This boy is going to be a star someday." And he was like a star to everyone he met-he shed light over many people. He had a personality bigger than life. I got to know Matt when he took an assigned seat next to me in one of my classes in high school. He talked about things I never understood until recently. I never got to thank him for leaving such a lasting impression on my life. He was a man of conviction and wise beyond his years. I'm glad to see he got to experience two of the best blessings in life: love and children. My heart goes out to his family-may you know that Matt was a true gem, a star. When you look to the sky, may his star sparkle brighter like a distant nova. He will never be forgotten. Until we meet again, old friend.
