Obituary of Donald Armentrout

Armentrout, Donald Smith, age 73, died at his home in Sewanee, Tennessee, on March 30, 2013. Don earned his BA with honors from Roanoke College, in Salem, Virginia, his M.Div. From the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and his Ph.D. From Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He was an ordained Lutheran pastor (ELCA) and taught church history for 42 years at the School of Theology at the University of the South, in Sewanee, where he also served as Academic Dean and Director of the Advanced Degrees Program. He received honorary degrees from Roanoke College and the General Theological Seminary in New York. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sue; his three children, Emily, Ellen, and Phillip; three grandchildren, Luke, Benno, and Nora; his sister, Cora Lou (David) Richards; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. A Memorial Service will be 3:00 P.M. CST, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 in All Saints Chapel, at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. A Reception will follow in Convocation Hall.
