Obituary of Johnnie Cope

Mr. Johnnie Carel "Cotton" Cope age 83 of the Midway community near Sewanee passed away Friday, November 30, 2012, in Erlanger Medical Center from complications of a stroke. He was born in Alabama on July 10, 1929, a son of the late Tom O. Cope and Bertha Mae Smith Cope. He had worked many years at Monteagle Silo and was preceded in death by brothers, Wes, Jess, Gibb, Roy and Jack Sargent; sisters, Bess, Allie and Phenie; son, Charles Cope; grandson, Charles Tant. Survivors include his wife, Sara "Lib" Cope; children, Carolyn (Jerry) Nunley, Sewanee, Connie Reavis, Decherd, Chuck (Beverly) Cope, Decherd and Celena (Mark) Green, Sewanee; brother, Joe Sargent, Monteagle; sister, Lucille Neeley, Nashville; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; several special nieces and nephews and his "special" dog, Sugar. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-9 P.M.
