Obituary of Michael Hugh Gilliam

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Hugh Gilliam, age 69, of Monteagle, Tennessee, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 30, 2023. He was born September 7, 1953, to the late Austin and Kathleen Bennett Gilliam. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Wanda Martin. Michael liked to play his guitar and sing. He is survived by his children, Anna (Roger) Gilliam, Samantha (Wade) Brown, Noah (Wendi) Gilliam, Jacob (Tanessa) Gilliam, and Autumn (Stacey) Northcutt; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Keith (Candace) Gilliam and Larry Gilliam. In the last remaining months and days of his life, I’ve seen great beauty of spirit rising out from the pain of his spiritual and bodily sufferings. When he was in pain, the rest of his children and family and friends felt it and came to his aid and comforted him. It took courage to live through his suffering: and it took honesty to observe it. We mourn over his passing as if a gray sky is spread all over everything. But we do not sorrow like the world with no hope. We are comforted by God in our sorrow. At the end, he gave his testimony and brought forth fruit meet for repentance with a broken and contrite heart. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord. "Pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world....No doubt pain as God's megaphone is a terrible instrument; it may lead to final and unrepented rebellion. But it gives the only opportunity the bad man can have for amendment. it removes the veil; it plants the flag of truth within the fortress of the rebel soul.” C.S. Lewis A Memorial Service will be held at Pelham Valley Home United Methodist Church on August 4th, 2023, from 5-7 PM. Note: The Photo was taken at K.M.B.I.
