Obituary of Jane Ellen Grooms

Jane Ellen Grooms, 82, of Chattanooga passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2023. She was a woman of strong faith in God, and had the gift of making everyone she met feel like they were the most special person in the world. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend to many. Jane Ellen was born on April 11, 1941 in Gruetli-Laager to the late John Leonard and Clementine Katherine Patton Grooms. She grew up in Monteagle with her four siblings, surrounded by a loving extended family, and was a 1959 graduate of Grundy County High School. She became an LPN in 1975 and earned a BS Degree in Education from UTC in 1990. She served as a well-loved health and biology teacher at Sequoyah High School for 16 years. During her retirement, one of Jane Ellen’s greatest joys was raising her granddaughter and caring for her numerous friends and family. She was a woman of infinite love and compassion to all who were blessed to know her. In her spare time, she enjoyed antiquing, restoring antiques and "digging in the dirt" in her beautiful yard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Dean Grooms, and sisters, Dolly Ann Grooms and Nancy Grooms Parmley. Jane Ellen is survived by her three children who adored her, Carey Morrison of Signal Mountain, Patrick Morrison and Sara Jane Grider of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Ashley Morrison of Jefferson City; sisters, Jeanette (George) Bohanan of Pelham and Betty (Mitch) Lawson of Monteagle; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm CDT on Sunday, July 9, at Cumberland Funeral Home in Monteagle. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment will follow at Pelham Church of Christ Cemetery.
