I have fond memories of Johnny Alexander, playing men’s league, baseball and softball for Monteagle. As a kid, my dad took me out to the Monteagle ballpark on Sundays to watch the men’s league baseball games; teams from around the area came to play; real baseball! Later on, for a few special years in the late 70s, I had the pleasure of playing with some great people on those same teams; all the Ladd’s, Dykes, Meeks, Hughes, Ramsey, Malone, Mansfield, Gipson’s, and others, and yes Johnny Alexander. He might’ve been the smallest guy on the team, but he was tough, I think he was the fastest too! He could beat out a lot of throws to first base. And if anybody got a hit in the outfield, he was coming home, and you better not get in his way! If a fight broke out, and many times they did during games, Johnny always had your back.
