John, his wife Martha, their family and also their greater extended family now over 23 years ago and for many years before, helped with the cattle gathering and branding on the Dale King Ranch in Piru CA. where they were invaluable help in getting the work done. Hot and dusty work in rugged country, they never complained, and continued on until the work was done. Although Martha ultimately fell ill with a terminal condition and needed special care, John looked after her faithfully and treated her with love and respect. John and Martha were good friends to my dad, and for that alone I will always treasure their kindness and friendship. Yes, a true cowboy he was, and always exemplified the image of a true Southern and Western gentleman. Rest in peace John. I do think of you often and think back to those days with very fond memories.
