Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Benson Northcutt was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He passed away at his home in Pelham, Tennessee, March 25, 2023. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl (Mike) Rogers, granddaughters Michele Rogers, Jessica (Shawn) Jones, grandson Nathan Northcutt, great-granddaughters Madelyn Aussiker, Allison and Ryleigh Jones, brother Freddie (Darlene) Northcutt, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who have become family. He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years Nadine Hampton Northcutt, son Robby Northcutt, his parents Stanley and Willie Mae Northcutt, and brother Earl Northcutt.
Benson, as he was known to by most, was born on September 21st, 1939, in Pelham, Tennessee. As a teenager he showed cattle with FFA. He was also a judge for FFA livestock competitions. He married Nadine on June 18th, 1960, and they started a life together in Pelham. He drove a milk truck and delivered milk to people in the Pelham area in the 1960s. Benson was a lifelong farmer and steward of the land. Over the years he was a chicken grower for Tyson and raised hogs and cattle. Benson and Nadine had two children Cheryl and Robby who helped on the farm over the years and traveled over the southeast showing livestock. Later, he and Nadine enjoyed spoiling and doting on their grandchildren Michele, Jessica, and Nathan. He also enjoyed sharing his love of farming with them. He was also blessed with three great-granddaughters Maddie, Allie, and Ryleigh who he loved to spoil and talk about with his friends. He had just sold his last herd of cattle in December.
Benson enjoyed antique tractors and farm equipment, and he loved watching old westerns. He also loved spending time at Bryan Livestock where he helped with the sales and spent time with his buddies. He never met a stranger and enjoyed spending time telling stories with his friends who were just like family to him. He loved sweets and anything his wife Nadine cooked. One of his favorites in the last few years was a hot skillet of cornbread with buttermilk.
Benson will be missed deeply, and his memory treasured by his family and friends. Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 P.M. Monday, March 27th and a funeral at 3 P.M. Tuesday, March 28th, with Brother Andy Lockhart officiating. A burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Pelham, Tennessee.
