William A. (Bill) Mayfield, Jr., 84, of Signal Mountain passed away Saturday, February 11, 2012. Bill was a faithful Christian worker and member of Taft Highway Church of Christ. He was retired from Signal Mountain Cement Plant and was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Ann Mayfield; parents, William A., Sr. and Bertha Elizabeth Ladd Mayfield; grandson, Nathan William Manz; sisters, Frances Wileman, Doris Murray, Genny Lou Haley and Pearl Rogers; brothers, Albert, Tommy, Raymond, John D. and Jerry Mayfield. Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jean Bishop Mayfield; son, Dan (Beverly) Mayfield; daughter, Brenda (John) Manz; sisters, Lois Henley and Grace Coffelt; brother, Bob Mayfield; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren (and one on the way) and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 1:00 pm Thursday in the Lane Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Harold Owen and Clint Henley officiating. Graveside services are 3:30 pm EST Thursday at Monteagle Cemetery with Jonathan Manz, Jeremy Manz, Timothy Manz, Daniel Mayfield, William Mayfield, Don Foster, Jonathan Whaley and Tim Bishop serving as active pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are Ed Bishop, Frank Burford, Michael Dowlen and Mike Whaley. Visitation is 4-8 pm Wednesday and one hour before services on Thursday at Lane Funeral Home.
