Obituary of Gene Clendal Burney

Gene Clendal Burney, age 76, of Monteagle, Tennessee, passed away Monday, September 19, 2022. Born to the late Purvis and Gladys Perkins Burney on July 2, 1946. Gene was an avid book reader. He enjoyed doing yardwork and working with his hands. Gene also loved listening to gospel music and going to concerts, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his son, Paul Burney; daughter, Kellie (Ronnie) Watts; sister, Judy Sechrest; grandchildren, Amber, Tamara, Steven, and Aaron; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Evelyn, Eleanor, and Lilly-Anne; several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Linda Burney; brother, Billy Burney; and brother-in-law, Bill Sechrest. There will be a funeral service Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 12 pm with Bro. Tony King officiating. Burial will follow in the Summerfield Cemetery. There will be a period of visitation with the family prior to the service on Thursday beginning at 10 am. Cumberland Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
