Obituary of James William Byers

Mr. James “Jimmy” Byers, age 74, of Tracy City passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, peacefully surrounded by family. He was born October 29, 1947, in Sewanee, TN, to James E. Byers and Evelyn Anderson Byers, both of whom preceded him in death. He enjoyed 4-wheeler riding, playing cards, shooting guns, going to car lots and talking to his buddies. He worked for TDOT for 30 years before retiring, and often liked to sit in town and watch the traffic. Jimmy is survived by his sons, James Eric (Julie) Byers, Zachary Alan (Traci) Byers, and Michael Heath Terrill; brother, John (Karen) Cockrell; sisters, Lena (Randy) Braden, Pat Johnson, and Susan (Mike) Settle; grandchildren, Ashley Byers, Haley Byers, Dylan Byers, Kelton Solomon, and Keaton Solomon; and many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends also survive. There will be a funeral service Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Foster and Lay Chapel with Bro. Barry Nolan and Bro. Bobby Winton officiating. Burial will follow at Plainview Cemetery. There will be a period of visitation with the family prior to the service from 11AM until 2PM. Cumberland Funeral Home, Inc is in charge of the arrangements.
