Obituary of Mary Ruth Tate

Mary Ruth Smalley Tate 87, of Sewanee, Tennessee gained her wings on Friday December 24,2021. She was born on June 14, 1934 in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the late Ules Lester Smalley and Maggie Powell Smalley and was of the Baptist faith. Mary was an enrolled member of the United Cherokee Aniyunwiya Nation. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John D. (Dink) Tate, and son, John R. (Dennis) Tate. She was also preceded in death by siblings Jimmy Smalley, Linda Garrett, Norma Carroll, Connie Roach, and Elizabeth Painter, Willard (Buddy) Smalley, and Bobby Smalley of Fyffe, Alabama She is survived by her children Jim (Mary Jane) Tate of Winchester, Tn., Doris (Lee) Trevino, Sandy (Jim) Yokley, and Carol (Phillip) Anderson, all of Sewanee, Tn. Also siblings Dreva (Johnny) Ladd of Sewanee, Tn, Ronnie Little of Cleveland, Tn, Doug Little of Nashville, Tn, Linda Gregory, Kay Smalley, Louise Cooper, Shirley Day, Joyce Stalvey, Charles Smalley, Larry Smalley, and Andy Beason all of Alabama. Also 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 2:00 on Tuesday December 28, 2021 at Cumberland Funeral Home, Monteagle, Tennessee.
