Obituary of Richard Alan Woods
Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Richard Alan Woods, known as Woody, age 60 died Wednesday August 11 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Westminster, Tennessee. He is survived by his mother, Winona Kaiser Woods of Adams, Nebraska. His son, Richard Alan Woods and spouse, of Christmas Florida and a new grandson, Ryder Gregory Woods. His son, Dalton Kenneth Russell Woods of Loganville, Georgia. Two sisters, Gail Peabody and spouse of Mobile, Alabama; Shelley Dougherty and spouse of Hillsdale, New Jersey, as well as multiple nieces and nephews. His also leaves behind his most trusted companion and friend, Knucklehead a black Labrador.
Woody graduated from Titusville High School in Florida and went onto the School of Hard Knocks as he liked to say. He was a skilled heavy equipment operator, adept in all machines and his expertise was sought out frequently. He was cement specialist and could pour a simple slab or condominium structures. He was also an engine repairman and there wasn’t an engine he could not tinker with to either destroy or repair.
He moved to Sewanne, Tennessee for employment 15 years ago. Once, on the mountain he found a community of kindred spirits and made the mountain his home and the people his family. He enjoyed a simple life there, where he could hunt, four wheel through the hills, sit around campfires and tell tales, make his own jerky, create jewelry and hang out with Knucklehead.
The family would like to thank Tom Kiningham and his wife Kathy, for recognizing the value and potential of a man like Woody. He knew he could confide in you, he could trust you with his affairs, and that you would not judge him but would steer him in the right direction. He considered Kathy a long lost cousin from the Woods side of the family. You have been unfailing in your friendship and your help during his illness, hospitalization and death. We can never repay the assistance or you kindness during these difficult times.
