Obituary of Michael Phillip Steele

Mr. Michael Phillip Steele, age 69, of Tracy City, passed away peacefully, July 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 24, 1951, to Roland Edwin Steele and Louise Marie (Miller) Steele, who preceded him in death. He was a Coal Miner and self-employed Heavy Equipment Operator. Michael loved to fish for bass and crappie, deer hunt, and be outdoors. He loved his family and took pride in being a coal miner and he was affectionately known as “Ice Cream.” Other than his parents, Michael is preceded in death by one brother, Nathan Edwin Steele. Michael is survived by his wife, Denise (Geary) Steele; daughters, Christy Lynn (Grace Gibbs) Steele of Tracy City, Ashley (Daniel) Chambers of Jasper, and Angela Bannerman of Vicksburg, Mississippi; brother, Walter David Steele of Mobile, Alabama, and half-brother Robby Steele of Petal, Mississippi; sister Linda Ogleby of Petal, Mississippi; grandchildren, Jaysa Caroline Cummings, Christopher Gregory Cummings, Sidney Elizabeth Davis Cummings, Griffith Samuel Dean Webb and Brylee Katheryn Chambers; and several nieces and nephews. Michael’s wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held August 2, 2021, at Cumberland Funeral Home in the Foster & Lay Chapel at 2:00 pm. Visitation with the family will be from 12 noon to 2 pm before the memorial service.
