Obituary of Billy Joe Kilgore

Mr. Billy Joe Kilgore, age 84, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2021. He was fondly known as “Flashlight” by many of his friends and coal mining buddies. Born September 26, 1936 to the late Wash and Serena Kilgore. Flashlight worked for the Tennessee Consolidated Coal company for many years. He was a great storyteller and was always willing to lend a helping hand, a comforting prayer, or kind words for those in need. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of forty-three years, Delphia Carroll Kilgore; sisters, Hazel Campbell and Florence Young; brother Virgil Kilgore; and three sets of twin brothers and a sister, Wesley Kilgore and Leslie Kilgore, Gene Kilgore and Alene Kilgore Ison, and his twin Bobby Jack Kilgore. He is survived by a son, Michael (Linda) Kilgore; daughters, Belinda Morgan, Janice Kilgore, and Marlene (David) Tollett; grandsons, Ryan (Emily) Powell, Parker Tollett, Nicholas Tollett and Rodney Pate; granddaughter, Linda Marie (Wesley) Green; along with several great and great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 2 – 4 PM and Sunday, April 18, 2021 from 12-1:30 PM at Cumberland Funeral Home-Tracy City with graveside services following immediately after at 2:00 PM, Burns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Whitwell/Marion County Coal Miners Museum, 900A Main St., Whitwell, TN 37397.
