Obituary of Margaret Donohue Orr

Margaret Donohue Orr, 72, of Sewanee, TN (formerly of Montgomery, AL) passed away Friday November 6, 2020 in Birmingham, AL. Margaret was born on June 18, 1948 at the 98th General Hospital in Munich, Germany, the 3rd child of Hannah Aldridge Hardie and Capt. John T. Donohue, USAF. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John W. Orr, and her brother Donald Lee Blankenship, Jr. Margaret is survived by her son John W. Orr, Jr. (Mia Ibarra) of Austin, TX and by her dear companion and partner Laurence Alvarez of Sewanee, TN. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: John T. Donohue (Kyongye) of Phenix City, AL; Michael P. Donohue (Kerrin) of Andalusia, AL; Thomas J. Donohue (Kathy) of Panama City Beach, FL; Maureen P. Donohue of Vestavia, AL; Berkeley D. Monroe (Jim) of Vestavia Hills, AL; Barbara D. Bell (Elbert) of Woodstock, GA. She is survived by 15 cousins, 16 nieces and nephews, and 22 great nieces and nephews. Margaret was Broker/Owner of Sewanee Realty and a former teacher in Montgomery, AL. She loved to travel, was an accomplished artist, and was a dedicated member of Otey Memorial Parish of Sewanee, TN. She had a passion for service and helping people in need. Margaret was loved by countless people whose lives she touched, and she will be dearly missed. Due to COVID-19, a small service will be held for Margaret’s family members, officiated by the Reverend Robert Lamborn, at Otey Memorial Parish on the afternoon of Saturday November 14, 2020. Burial will follow at the University of the South Cemetery at approximately 3:00 p.m., with masks and social distancing required. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Otey Memorial Parish of Sewanee: P. O. Box 267, Sewanee, TN 37375.
