Obituary of Mary Ruth Burton

Mary Ruth Coppinger Burton, 76, of Jasper, Tennessee died Sunday, October 25, 2020 at her home. A lifelong resident of Marion County, she was the youngest of five children born to the late Gilbert Hiram & Pearl Irene Lewis Coppinger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Ralph Burton, brothers, Gilbert Hiram “Red” Coppinger, Jr. and Lewis “Rabbit” Coppinger, and sisters, Alice Joyce Coppinger and Nancy Coppinger Holtcamp. She is survived by her children, Melissa Burton Payne and Gil & Meegan Rogers Burton, grandchildren, Caleb Payne, Bo Burton, and Katie Burton, four nieces, and one nephew. Graveside funeral services will be held at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. Central time on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 with Jimmy Holtzclaw, officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Central time on Monday, October 26, 2020 at Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Mary Ruth’s memory be made to support the MCHS Color Guard or the MCHS Theater Arts Program, c/o Marion County High School, 160 Ridley Drive, Jasper, TN 37347.
