Obituary of Johnny J Johnson

Mr. Johnny Joseph Johnson, age 83, of Sewanee, Tennessee, passed away from this life on September 29, 2020 at his home with his loving family by his side. Johnny was born in Sewanee, Tennessee on May 5, 1937 to the late Charlie and Gladys Johnson. He attended Sewanee Elementary School and Winchester High School. While in high school he excelled in football and basketball, he also played baseball in Sewanee where he was coached by his father Charlie Johnson. Johnny also was an avid Boy Scout and became an Eagle Scout after several years. Following high school Johnny joined the Navy on March 27, 1962, he served for 2 years and then was discharged on March 27, 1964. Following discharge from the Navy, he was employed by the United Postal Service, he retired after many years. Johnny also loved playing golf and he won many awards and trophies. Golf became his way of life until illness prevented him from playing. He also loved planting flowers and gardening and enjoyed watching the plants and vegetables grow. Johnny is survived by his sisters; Judy Johnson and Betty Johnson of Sewanee, Tennessee; brothers, Buddy Johnson of Sewanee, Tennessee and Jim Johnson of Estill Springs and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
