Obituary of Samuel Benner Dawson

Mr. Samuel Benner Dawson, 81, of Tifton, passed away on August 9, 2020 at his residence in Tifton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 13 at 11:00 A.M at Eastside Baptist Church with military honor., Rev. Keith Norris will be officiating. Interment will be held at Plainview Cemetery in Tracy City, TN on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 11AM, with Cumberland Funeral Home handling the graveside service. Men of the First John Sunday School class of Eastside Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.. Mr. Dawson was born on December 13, 1938 to the late Johnny Theodore Dawson and Ruth A. Davis Dawson in Dade City, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jerrie Jeanette Evans Dawson; one daughter, Myra Ann and Ken Smith of Houston, TX, one son, Gary Brent Dawson of Santa Rosa, CA; and 2 granddaughters, Jessica and Jeannette Smith. A resident of Tifton since 1967, he was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church. Mr. Dawson served in the U. S. Air Force for eight and one-half years, and then worked as a communications technician with AT&T for 35 years. He loved flying a Sessna 172, hunting and fishing on the coast. He loved his family, especially his granddaughters. Mr. Dawson was a licensed electrician and loved doing odd jobs for his friends. He loved people and never met a stranger. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 385, Tifton, GA 31794. Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.cumberlandfuneralhome.net.
