Mr. Samuel Herbert "Bud" Werner, IV, age 77 of Tracy City, Tennessee died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, in Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. A lifelong resident of Tracy City, Bud was a son of the late Samuel Herbert Werner, III and Beatrice Helen Pease Werner. Bud graduated from the Webb School in Bell Buckle, TN and attended Georgia Tech, He left Georgia Tech before graduating to serve in the U.S. Army. He served as a Dental Specialist with the 768th Medical Detachment in Mannheim, Germany. For his service he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and given an honorable discharge. After the military he founded the Sam Werner Machinery Company and was a co-owner of the Sam Werner Lumber Company timber holdings. His military ignited a passion for military history, particularly World War II, and military vehicles. He was devoted to dogs, but loved and cared for any animal that turned up in his yard. Bud Werner is survived by his cousin, Ellen Boyd Stamler and her husband, William R. Stamler of Paris, KY and their daughter, Rose Mary Stamler Dow and her husband, Philip B. Dow of Lexington, KY. He was preceded in death by his fiancée, Jane Alsup. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 22, 2011, in the Foster & Lay Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Clark Baker will officiate and Claude Hoback will offer a prayer. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery in Tracy City. A visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Homer Hunziker, Mark Stewart, Ray Patton, Paul Flury, George Diehl and John Kunz will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Cunningham, Squirrel Layne, Dean Lutes, Harvey Cameron, Ron Alred and Harold Normasy. Memorials may be made to the Paris Animal Welfare Society, (P. A. W. S.), Post Office Box 222, Paris, KY 40362. Please include the name of the memorial gift and full return address. On line condolences may be made at www.fosterlayfuneralhome.net. Arrangements are by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, Tennessee.
