Obituary of Dorris Derry

Mrs. Doris Meadows Derry,81, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Waters of Winchester, in Winchester, Tennessee. She was born on August 31, 1938 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Thomas Jefferson Meadows and Bertha Lee Hazel Howard. The following is a special eulogy from her cousin, friend and caregiver Haskel Meadows: Doris came into my life in 1999. Her and her sister came to Tennessee to find kin folk and find kin folk they did. First and second cousins, great aunts, and friends that remember her when she was a child. She moved back to Tennessee, bought a house and settled in. I sort of adopted her, as her closest relatives here where old and not healthy. Her other relatives lived several states away. She loved it here. As she grew older, she began to have serious memory loss and had to be taken to a long-term care facility. She made friends there and thrived. We visited her every week. She was always looking for a job and worried how she was paying for everything. I always told her” that was for me to worry about not you”, she would say, “if you say so”, and I would say, “I say so”. She going to be missed greatly. But in heaven at last to be with her grandmother. A private service was held with family at Hobbs Hill Cemetery.
