Obituary of John Howard Sasser

Mr. John Howard Sasser age 78 of Monteagle passed from this life on February 12, 2020, following a recurring ilness. He was born in Columbus, Georgia on Jan. 6, 1942, a son of the late Johnny F. Sasser and Iola Johnson Sasser. John was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Margaret, who passed in 2015. He is survived by his children, Barbara Schloss (Andrew) and John Sasser, Jr. (Angie); two grandsons, Stephen and John Schloss; as well as extended family and his good friends and neighbors. Both John and Margaret devoted thieir live to the service of their country. John joined the U.S. Army at the ge of 17 and served active duty, including deployment in Vietnam, until retirement after 23 years. After retiring from active duty, he spent over 25 years working for the Department of Defense, until he and Margaret retired to Tennessee. He was a lifelong lover of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as woodworking. He was devoted to his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held Friday, March 27, 2020, at 12:30 P.M. (Daylight Savings Time) at the Chattanoooga National Cemetery.
